I have say i have been waiting for this, its perfect in every way. I only hope the other 4 games of myst get revamped I love spending hours playing.

Im not sure what fix the developer used for the main menu issue, but its still not working. I am not able to bring up the main menu, and as a result I cannot play the game. It sounds like others have gotten past this and they have loved the game. I am very hopeful that this issue can be resolved quickly. Im sending a ticket to the Cyan support and request help. So, when they either fix the issue or I receive a refund I will be happy to update this rating. I sure hope they fix it, Id love to play.
I have played a lot of games on Mac and this is by far the worst. I started the game and I am already stuck in an object. Never got passed the lighthouse. They should be offering refunds. I can’t figure out where all the 5 stars came from. Very disappointed customer. It makes me leave one star or I would have left it blank.
One of the things that made Myst so stunning when it was new was the ground-breaking graphics. This adaptation has taken away the crispness and the reality of the original. The textures have a plastic quality. You might be better off buying the original, especially at this price!
Our memories are often sweeter than the reality they reflect. And though I am tickled to see this revival of Myst, it is (by some difficult to quantify measure) not quite what I recall of the original experience, at least not as it appeared on my long-ago Windows machine. As mentioned elsewhere in these reviews, the quality of the graphics doesn’t appear to be on par with the olden version. But is that even possible? Or is it just memory (mine, not my MacBook Pro’s) playing tricks on me? At the very least (and what with the benefit of Cyan’s software re-optimization, and the oomph our newer hardware) I would have expected a richer-than-original experience. Yes, in fairness, this release does introduce new capabilities. I’m just not convinced that they’re improvements. By tinkering with the advanced settings, turning off some of the water-effects and the like, and by opting to play in the traditional point-click fashion, I can reclaim much of the classic flavor of Myst—much but (and it’s back to that hard to quantify stuff) not all. Perhaps this really is what it looked like—with hints of aliasing and a coarseness which I simply overlooked back in the day because, well, Myst was such a wickedly novel form of entertainment. Are you wondering whether you should splurge? If you’ve never ventured into the world of Myst, by all means this is a fine enough way to do so; but if you’re an ancient explorer like me, sadly, you may find yourself crawling down the road to Weltschmerz.
Doesnt work. I wouldve thought they would atleast take it off the app store if people cant even open it.
Title says it all. Can’t play this once great game. Will be asking for fix soon or my money back.
I first played Myst in 1997. That’s eons ago in software-development time. Myst was captivating then, and the puzzles and story still hold up so many years later. Adding realtime walk-around is nice, though the look-around controls occasionally freeze-up, which is why it gets four stars from me instead of five. (I just randomly strike the keyboard and the problem fixes itself.) To gripe about a 20-year-old game that holds up as well as Myst seems a bit of snark. The puzzles are puzzling because they’re SUPPOSED to be — it’s not Highlights Magazine. Great game that has inspired so many since. Can’t wait to see Riven-Revisited.
I loved Myst when i was a kid and was so happy when i saw it in the app store! But then i downloaded it and got the biggest dissapointment. Where are all these 5 star ratings that apple is reporting. I didnt read any reviews because of the rating they are showing. Cant get to the menu to play the game like most of the other reviewers. How is this still in the app store without a fix?!!!
I read a few reviews which mentioned crashing issues and I bought the game anyhow, since this was such an opportunity to go back and play one of great games of all time. I am sorry to report that all the enjoyment was gne 5 minutes into the game, as it is impossible to play without confronting serious computer issues along with black out artifacts. Most disappointing!
ESC key (while you’re in the game) wil bring up the menu. PROS - looks great, lots of new features, can’t wait to play the game all over again for the ‘first’ time. It’s been so long, I don’t really remember much of it. CONS - This game definitely takes a lot of processing power and memory. I’ve never heard the fan on my Macbook Air until I ran the game for a few minutes.
Like many of you, this was the first game that I played that didn’t have instructions, or walk throughs, and I remeber playing on a MAC. This updated version I can say is as nostalgic as you would expect from Cyan! The music, environments and puzzles are all updated — and on a 27 inch iMac with max resolution, looks amazing!
Perhaps if Riven were included with this game, it would be worth paying $18 for a 20 year old game. It was cool to play and work though the ages again but the so called improvements were not very impressive. The flashlight addition is more anoying than amusing. The Rime Age is a joke. It’s pointless and has no challenge to it whatsoever. Save your money.
I dont understand all the haters. If you dont want to play a 20 year old game that you played before, then dont buy it. It is great that realMyst has been updated with better graphics to play on Intel Macs. I still have my original release of Myst and realMyst that I can play on my vintage Macs. I enjoy playing in "classic" mode the way the game was originally intended to be played. It is nice that you can press the Shift key in classic mode and see a screenshot of the original graphics from 1993 for comparison. The reason I gave it four stars was because of the disappointing sound effect when opening and closing doors. Instead of the original creaking door opening and closing with a gentle slam, they used the sound bite from AOL/AIM buddy in and buddy out door open/close. Really Cyan? Why would you do that? You made the game sound cheap by using that lame soundbite. Fix it and restore the original soundbite for the doors opening and closing. The game plays great on my 2011 iMac 27" with 10.8.5, no crashes at all.
I was an original Myst player back in the 90s, then RealMyst, and all the others. Been playing this for about 2 days now - no technical problems. Love it! Hope Riven is on its way!!!
This game brings back a lot of great memories from days long ago. I don’t really understand all the bad reviews people are leaving. If you can’t get the game to run at all, than the problem is most likely the installation or on your end (i.e., there is something wrong with your computer software, settings or hardware). As far as the black boxes that show up if you have a certain type of AMD graphics card, the solution is easy and obvious to anyone that could read the developer’s support page (turn off Motion Blur under the advance graphcs menu). As far as the graphics go, I also don’t understand all of the negative reviews. Its been twenty years since the original release and as far as I can see, the graphics are as good if not better than back then. Make sure to check and see what graphic options you have set. You may want to uncheck Auto and select the highest rendering possible if you think the graphics look that bad. Best real time point and click ever! Highly recomended to old time Myst players and new ones.
Great game, loved playing it when it origionaly came out too. The only probem I’ve encountered is that I can’t climb the ladder in the tower. I walk to it, start climbing then it freaks out and im facing the elevator. I’ve tried several times click on different places and nothing works
MMMM YEAH, SO GOOD. A high point of “games I want to play when I’m sick in bed” which is anything like this, Riven, The Room, Machinarium. All so good. I was actually sick one day, I decided to also be sick the next day so I could finish this. I regret nothing, except that I can really only play these games once. Need more. Or I can get out of bed...I guess.
Myst and it works flawlessly. Enough Said!
The original MYST was gorgeous with highly detailed images and beautiful sound effects. Where is the lovely engrosing music of old? I was excited to see this in the App Store. Ive missed playing Myst and Riven on my old Blue and white G3 with OS 9 for over a decade. But this is like some half rate hacker decided to copy myst and sell it as the real thing. its a cheap copy pasted on the unity engine. Calling this real myst and a masterpiece edition is and oxymoron. I hope there are drastic improvements comming. Ill be fair and wait since its only version 1.1.1. But If no improvements come, then Ill want my money back. Not much has changed in 1.1.2 :(
